In the can!

Producing a film, regardless of its length or scope is a difficult process. It is a lot like building a house. First you have to come up with the plan from an architect, a nice script in the case of film. Then you have to find the land, set up all the pieces into action and starting scratching dirt. I have found that much of the joy of filmmaking for me comes from the planning and production stages. That leaves post production as the odd man out. This is the part where all the silent aspects come to fruition. They say a good edit is one that doesn't draw attention to itself, yet fully incorporates the mood, tone, and helps push the story along in the way that it needs to. The same is true with music, sound mixing, mastering, etc. And this is the stage no one really thinks about, save for the few of us brave souls that endeavor to make projects like these. To go back to the previous metaphor, this is the stage where the walls are up, the plumbing is in the ground, and we just sit around for inspectors to come and make sure everything is up to code, and make small tweaks and changes along the way. It takes a long time, and sometimes people don't really understand all that goes into the process, they just want the keys to their new home, or in this case, to watch the completed film.
I am happy to report, however, that the begrudging labor intensive process of post production in all it's forms is now done and am happy to announce that the film is DONE! Well... not exactly. I don't know that it is ever done done. Now it's on to making press kits, planning a screening and strategically mapping and submitting to film festivals across the globe so that the film can get its best exposure. Still a lot of work to do, but at the very least, now we have a product. I am very proud of what we did for the little money we did it for. It would not have been possible without the generous monetary donations from friends, family, and strangers, as well as the more than generous donations of peoples time, energy, equipment, and other resources. Filmmaking is a team effort and we had one heck of one on this.
Stay tuned for updates on when and where you can see the film, hopefully you can make it out to the Premiere in Los Angeles, and if not, hopefully it will be screening at a festival near you in the coming year!
